Significant Changes – Overview
o Revision of Rules 5.4, 10.4.3 and 11: To conform to USAC’s adoption of the SafeSport
policies.
o Clarification of Rule 5.4.4: Youth Team Championship participation.
o Clarification of Rule 5.5.3: ABS and SCS season competitions.
o Revision of Rule 5.11.4 a): Number of routes/problems for SCS and ABS competitions.
o Revision of Rule 5.11.4 (k) and (l): Redpoint format final score tabulation.
o Adoption of 5.12.9: CCS Regional Championship format.
o Adoption of Rules 5.18.5: Definition of “Hold” and “Handhold.”
o Adoption of Rules 5.18.6, 5.18.7 and 5.18.8: Start and Finish holds.
o Clarification of Rule 5.18.9: Prior to an attempt, competitors may only touch the marked
starting hold(s). If the competitor touches any other holds, they will be charged with an
attempt.
o Adoption of Rule 5.18.10: Control of start holds.
o Revision of Rule 5.18.11: Start of attempt.
o Adoption of Rule 5.18.12: Finish holds.
o Revision of Rule 5.25.9: Technical incident, Speed climbing.
o Clarification of Rule 5.28.1: Control.

o Clarification of Rule 5.28.4, 5.28.5 and 5.28.7 Scoring – Sport, Speed and Bouldering.

o Elimination of Rule 5.38.5: All redpoint problems must be clearly taped for the entire
route. Onsight problems/routes do not require taping provide there is a clear climbing
“lane” as to not cause confusion or interference to/from another competitor.
o Revision of Rules 6.10.1, 6.10.2 and 6.10.3: Sport climbing rankings.
o Revision of Rule 7.3.2: Route timing, Speed climbing.
o Revision of Rule 7.6.10: False starts, Speed climbing.
o Adoption of Rule 7.8: Ties, Speed climbing.
o Adoption of Rule 8.3.2: Climbing time recorded announcement, Bouldering.
o Revision of Rules 8.4.1, 8.4.2 and 8.4.3: Rankings, Bouldering.

Format
The format will be an Open Redpoint Format with a Modified (Highpoint) World Cup Finals for Open Competitors.Climbers' rank in pre-lims and the Junior Event will be based on their top 5 problems. There is no limit on the number of tries. For Open Categories there will be a final round, for up to 8 competitors, or one more than half of competitors present, whichever is smaller. The format for Finals will be Modified (Highpoint) World Cup (sometimes called Onsight). For more information on the ABS rules regarding these formats and other non-format specific rules (e.g. filing protests, etc.) please see the USA Climbing Handbook. All competitors, parents and coaches are expected to be familiar with these rules prior to attending the competition. Formats are subject to change at any time, subject to the discretion of the PRG.
Volunteer
It takes a lot of dedicated individuals to put on an exceptional competition. We are always looking for interested volunteers who can help make these events the best they can possibly be. In particular, volunteers can help with Judging, Scoring, Set Up and Route Setting. If you would like to volunteer for the Midnight Burn in any one of these areas, please contact Randi Goldberg.

Open to both kids and adults. teams of two climbers will compete together and turn in a combined scorecard. All prizes will be awarded to teams based on the climbs both teammates complete. The competition will be a standard Redpoint competition with no limit to the number of tries a person gives to each problem. There will be 15 climbs set for each category worth between 10-150 points. Partners do NOT need to be in the same category to climb together. A climber who is climbing V6, for example, will do the Advanced problems, while the partner who climbs V1 will do the Novice problems. Prizes will be awarded based on total score, volume of problems completed, best team name, and more!
Novice: VB- V2
Intermediate: V3-V5
Advanced: V6-V7
Open: V8 +
