USA Climbing Updates Rules for Youth Nationals

Superceded by:
See the following link for the full details.

The rule changes involve tie breaking, USA team selection and Speed Climbing Start commands.

At this year’s Speed National Championship, USA Climbing will use an automated timing system. As a result, the start commands shall be:
“At your mark” followed by “Ready” and then, after a randomized delay of 0.5 to 1.5 seconds, there will be an audible “start” tone
The start command “Attention” has been eliminated. As a result, rule 7.6.4 has been revised as follows:

7.6 Climbing Procedure (Speed)
7.6.4 Once the competitors are in the starting position, the Judge shall call “Ready.” After a
randomized delay of 0.5 to 1.5 seconds, there will be an audible “start” tone.

5.31 Ties (Revision) – Sport
5.31.1c If, after the completion of the super final round, the tie(s) has not been broken, then the
“time” used to achieve the (super final) result shall determine the ranking of the super
final round competitors, such that the competitors will be ranked in order of increasing
time.
5.31.1d “Time” shall also be used to break ties for any lower ranked finalist competitors not
subject to a super final round.

5.37 U.S. National Team Selection (Revision)
5.37.1 National ranking and the U.S. National Team, in each category and discipline, will be
determined by the results of the National Championships – Open and Youth – and shall
be announced by USAC at the conclusion of each respective National Championship
event.
5.37.2 All reigning World and/or Pan American Champions – Open and/or Youth – that are U.S.
citizens will also be members of the U.S. National Team in their respective World
Champion discipline(s).
5.37.3 The U.S. National Team is composed of the top four (4) U.S. citizen competitors in the
National Championships – Open and Youth – and any reigning World and/or Pan
American Champions. In the event a reigning World and/or Pan American Champion
finishes in the top four (4) U.S. citizen competitors in the National Championships, the
next highest placed U.S. citizen competitor(s) will also be member(s) of the U.S. National
Team.
5.37.4 An individual that has been selected to compete in the place of a U.S. National Team
member at Youth World Championships or Pan American Championships, shall then also
be considered a U.S. National Team member, as an “Alternate.” Additionally, a U.S.
Team Alternate shall receive the same benefits as a U.S. Team member (i.e., receiving a
“bye” to the Regional Championships).

5.38 Invitations to International Competitions (Revision)
5.38.1 Invitations to compete at the Youth World Championships are first extended to members
of the U.S. National Team, in the Youth A, B and Junior categories, as recognized by the
IFSC. In the event a U.S. National Team member declines their invitation, the invitation
will be passed-down to the next highest placed U.S. citizen finalist of the respective
National Championship. If an invitation remains, after having been extended to all
finalists, then the invitation will be extended to all competitors through an “Application
Process.” Refer to the U.S. Team Selection Addendum, in this rulebook.
5.38.2 The Pan American Council provides an opportunity for competitors in the Youth C and
Youth D categories to compete in a Pan American Championships. Invitations to the Pan
American Championships are first extended to members of the U.S. National Team in all
youth categories. If an invitation remains, after having been extended to all finalists, then
the invitation will be extended to all competitors through an “Application Process.” Refer
to the U.S. Team Selection Addendum, in this rulebook.
Note: The IFSC only recognizes athletes that attained Pan American Champion status
while competing as either a: Junior, Youth A or Youth B competitor. Athletes that achieve
this status as a Youth C or Youth D and, subsequently, “age-up” to the Junior, Youth A or
Youth B category are not eligible to receive a bye to the Youth World Championships.
5.38.3 Invitations to compete at the IFSC World Championships and IFSC World Cups are first
extended to members of the U.S. National Team. In the event a U.S. National Team
member declines their invitation, the invitation will be passed-down to the next highest
placed U.S. citizen finalist of the respective National Championship. If an invitation
remains, after having been extended to all finalists, then the invitation will be extended to
all competitors through an “Application Process.” Refer to the U.S. Team Selection
Addendum, in this rulebook: http://usaclimbing.net/2013%20Rules%20Revisions.pdf
