YCS - December 2012

PRG is hosting the last YCS event of the 2012 on  Saturday December 1, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Oaks gym.

YCS stands for Youth Climbing Series.  There are four YCS events each the year.  It is a friendly, competitive event designed for young climbers age 3 to 13 with both bouldering and top-rope climbing.  Fun games and awards follow the climbing. YCS is a great way to introduce friends and siblings to climbing.

The cost is $20 however, the fee is waived for TeamPRG members.  Equipment rental is included.

ESCALADA DEPORTIVA 2012

The 2012 Youth Pan Am Climbing Championships are on Nov. 21-25 in Santiago, Chile.  The competition will bring the top Youth A, B, C and Junior athletes from Canada, the U.S., Central and South America in the disciplines of Speed, Sport and Bouldering.  TeamPRG's Solomon Barth will be representing the USA in Youth B for Sport Climbing and Bouldering.  Here are some photos.

Gretna Outdoor Bouldering Comp

The 2nd Annual Gretna Bouldering Comp is Saturday, November 17 (rain date Nov. 18). It is an outdoor comp. Pre-regisration is only $20 and guarantees you a t-shirt and a burrito. If you wait until the day of the comp, its $25 and you will NOT get a t-shirt. It is not a USA Climbing sanctioned event but they promise great prizes, a new mini-guide for the competitors, new areas, a shoe demo and more importantly, plain diabase filled FUN. 

Shirts almost as cool as the Midnight Burn ;-)

It will be scored by difficulty with categories for prizes: kids under 12, beginner, intermediate, advanced, masters 35+.  First, second and third in both mens and womens for all categories...Everyone has a great chance to win a prize!

Registration opens at 8 am , Climbing starts at 9 am and ends around 4pm. Bring your own crash pad.

This event is geared toward raising funds to be used at the park for bouldering needs as well as raising awareness of good ethics for bouldering at Governor Dick Park. 100% of the proceeds will go back into the park.

Mount Gretna offers excellent bouldering inside Governor Dick’s Nature Preserve. Composed of groups of diabase boulders strewn throughout a dense forest, the area can be tricky to navigate without a guide or guidebook but once mastered it takes just minutes to reach the nearest boulders. 

Getting There 
3283 Pinch Rd, Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania 17016

From the PA Turnpike take Exit 266 (Lebanon/Lancaster) and turn Right after toll booths onto PA 72 (Lebanon Road). Travel approximately 2 miles then turn Right onto Cider Press Road. Continue to Stop sign and turn Right onto Pinch Road. Follow Pinch Road into nature preserve and park at Clarence Schock education center on Right just after State Game Lands sign. 

Governor Dick's Nature Preserve:
The park is comprised of 1105 acres of woodland in Mount Gretna, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania and is presently managed by a co-trusteeship of representatives of the Clarence Schock Foundation and the Lebanon County Commissioners to provide the use of the land as a public park and playground while maintaining and preserving it as a forest or woodland in accordance with the terms of the Clarence Schock Deed of Trust and to preserve the natural resources of the Park.
